A quick 12 month update

Ms. K and I had a trip to the doctor this morning for her 12 month appointment.  We met her "assigned" doctor, Dr. Chrissy Adams for the first time.  Everyone has been great at Northpoint, outside of the nurse practitioner two weeks ago when we were in for the double ear infection.  This really boiled down to her offhand and unnecessary comment about that "Daddy just needs to make more money so Mommy can stay at home."  Excuse me?  Who said anything about this Mama wanting to stay at home?  And I hate to tell her, if anyone was going to stay home, it would be Daddy, not Mommy.  Anyways...

This morning Kherington weighed 19 lbs, 3 oz which put her in the 16th percentile.  This was down from the 24th percentile, but I was reassured this is normal for when they start moving and are burning more calories.  Also their diet changes from milk based to milk supplemented.  Makes sense. Kherington was 29 inches long, putting her in the 40th percentile, which was up from 24th {I believe} at 9 months.  Yea, for height!!  And amazingly her head was 45.8 cm in circumference putting her in the 74th percentile.  For once we did not land in the 90th some odd percentile for head circumference.

Dr. Adams was impressed with her vocabulary and her ability to sign as well.  She said she looked great.  She also complimented Kherington on her ability to cooperate and sit still while she listened to her heart and lungs, looked at her ears {which were all clear - Thank God!}, and looked at her throat and teeth, including two molars that came through on top yesterday.  A good explanation of the extreme fussiness the last couple of days.  I felt like Jared and I had been cast into teething hell and would never escape.  I know we are not through this but it seemed like she at least woke up in a better mood today.  A good, happy day every now and then does wonders to parents.

Kherington had her finger pricked so they could check her hemoglobin and iron levels.  She was very intrigued with the process and didn't even flinch.  She was also very curious about the adult sized finger band-aid they placed on her finger afterwards.  This might be something to keep in mind in the future for distraction techniques.  The nurses came back in to administer the vaccines, but before doing so assured me her blood levels were okay and we could begin whole milk.  Good thing, because K started having whole milk in her bottle on March 1st.  But I"m glad the nurse approves. :) Then she received two shots, one which I can't recall, but I know it was the last of four in the series and then the first of her Hepatitis A vaccines.  She didn't like the shots, but was crying before they even poked her from being forced to lay down.  "There is too much to see and do to lay down these days!"

Love our little, petite princess, more and more each day!!
